It was one of my first wanderings in the Rhodope Mountains. I ended up in the village of Stikul, below Gela and above Solishta. I discovered the cattle pens of the old man Spas. A very beautiful place, from which you can see a lot of the Rhodope Mountains. While I was waiting for Spas to take care of the sheep and then come to photograph him, I took a walk. I saw this little house where a shepherd lived, then it was turned into a shack, and now it’s a wreck of the past. It looked a lot like taken from a novel by a great Russian author. There was sadness, loneliness, and something ending. As if the house and the tree were living out the last years of their existence and were mutual witnesses of this end.
